hogwarts had never seen this before. most of the grounds near the lake had been occupied by a stage of massive proportions, ready for the acts that were appearing on the stage within the next half hour. students were pouring in in large numbers, excited for what they were promised. as the time of the concert drew near, speakers clicked on, and the first performer took the stage....

*----- your grace is wasted in your face your boldness stands alone among the wreck her heart was pounding. she was scared to death that the guitar in her hand was going to slip from her sweaty palms and burst into pieces on the floor beneath her. rory could handle playing for her many goo goo dolls posters in her room. johnny never stopped smiling at her. she could deal with playing for her little brother and her parents (well, her dad at least. her mother would always be a disapproving bitch), but this... this wasn't just her room, or her brother. this wasn't liam and eme. this was... the entire school. why did she sign up to do this? what was the thought that possessed her? why? when the thought first crossed her mind, it seemed like a good idea. fish's band needed an opening act, and he promised to play a mumford and sons song with her. well. how could she say no? she loved him, and loved the band. so why not? plus, she wanted to play. she liked playing. but that was when she thought it was going to be just some little thing by the lake on a blanket with their friends, not a huge concert on a stage in the middle of the grounds. whoever had this idea was insane, certifiably. but there was no going back now. fish was out on stage, announcing her. "and i present, the one, the only, the ever confused and lovely... cornered by lions!"that was her cue. cornered by lions was something she came up with on her own, then thinking of stage names and songs to do. it was mumford and sons that made her decide. she nodded to fish, telling him it was safe to go offstage, and that she would announce him. she picked up the chord and plugged it into the bottom of her acoustic electric guitar, smiling and waving awkwardly to the crowd. "hey there everyone! how we doin out there?" she asked as she adjusted the mic. once she was situated, she played a single chord on her baby and smiled. "so the first song i'll do is by the automatic loveletter, actually, more specifically, juliet simms. it's a bit old, yeah, but i like it. so here we go!" she barred the first chord, strumming and palm muting the beginning, the way she practiced so many times before. just keep breathing was one of her favorite songs in the world. there was something about not only the vocals, but the message behind it that she loved. it was simple, and she just... it fit her voice perfectly. she felt her voice strain on the high belting notes in the third verse and chorus, but other than that... things were going well, for sure. this was easier than she ever thought it would be. as she finished the song, she breathed an intense sigh of relief. they were clapping.... they liked her? well... that was most definitely good. from off stage, rory could see fish smiling at her and giving her the thumbs up. she waved him over to her and watched him grab his guitar. "so, you guys get to see him rock out later, but for right now, i'm giving you a sneak peek of mr. goldfish crumb, the amazing guitarist of the riot van!" she said as he walked out and took the seat next to her. "this song is by mumford and sons, and it's called... little lion man." it was the reason she picked the name of her stage persona. rory was having a bit of an issue keeping up with the strumming patterns, but fish followed her, and they made it work. she was just happy that they were getting the harmonies. that was the main reason she brought him out there. of course, she needed his strings, but his pipes were just as important. "it was not your fault but mine, but it was your heart on the line... i really fucked it up this time, didn't i my dear? didn't i my. dear." she ended the song and smiled at fish. "so yeah! that's me. up next... fork'n knives!" she said, waving to the crowd as she walked off stage. the adrenaline was still pumping through her body like... woah, and she couldn't have been happier.

I can't fall asleep But i sure can dream this is what she lived for. this excitement, the nervousness, the butterflies, the noise, the crowd, the smell, the nausea. everything. every little thing about this was something that had been born and bred into her very dna. all you had to do was look at the fact that all but one of her siblings were involved with this concert to know that the crumb's were music folk. and the only reason saira wasn't in the concert was probably just because she was already graduated. and maybe the baby. jemica wasn't sure. all she knew was that her brother was on stage right now playing guitar and singing. carter, or fish as every one in the world knew him as, was a great musician. jemica had actually always subconsciously been a bit intimidated by him when it came to music. now she was no slouch, she had a great voice, even she would admit that, and she could play guitar and her dad had taught her the bagpipes. but let's face it none of those, except singing, were a strength. carter, on the other hand, was a master. all the crumb kids were musically inclined. hard not to be when they were children of a weird sister, and grew up on the tour circuit.
as the second song of the opening set continued jemica let herself fall into her usual routine. people usually thought she was on crack before a gig. she'd usually be pacing back and forth drumming or strumming a tune on thin air, singing under her breathe. or even, as now, singing out loud. and sometimes it made no sense. she'd be singing the beginning of one song then switch mid word into another song or a string of random words. it was just how she was. always had been. it was nerves, and it was also just her routine. no one had ever said she was normal. not even her or her parents deluded themselves that much. normal people worried her though. so she was ok with being weird. as she turned yet again in her pacing her eyes fell across her guitarist. columbus thruston. he was also a weird sisters spawn and they'd grown up together. they'd decided they wanted to finally start a band, but thus far they only had the two of them. that was ok though, they worked really well together and they sounded good, at least in her opinion.
and so here they were, waiting backstage till it was their turn. they were fork'n knives. it was a joke jemica's aunt had always told when they were kids. instead of 'fuckin' knives' it was fork'n knives. ya it was lame. but for some reason it had always stuck in her head. and columbo had thought it was funny. it was one of those names that usually made people think and think they were completely nuts. which was great! finally jemica stood still, adjusting her dress she hoped she looked ok. her boyfriend would be out in the crowd. they'd only recently started dating, and it was jemica's first boyfriend. yea she was seventeen. but she'd always been the 'friend' never more. which was why silas was so refreshing. he didn't treat her as a friend. well he did, but not as just a friend. she hoped she didn't completely make an arse of herself.
turning to beam at columbus as she heard lorelai finish up and announce them. striding out onto the stage jemica saluted her brother as she walked past him, giving him her customary smirk. giving a smile to lorelai jemica turned to see the site she'd been waiting all week to see. the hundreds upon hundreds of screaming, cheering people. the mere sound and site made goosebumps crawl across her skin. this is what she lived for. striding up to the mic jemica grabbed it and winked at columbus. "give it up for cornered by lions one more time!" she yelled clapping her hands together above her head. "oh and that other bum she picked up off the street for the last song" she added laughing. pretty much everyone in the school knew her and fish in some form so her comment didn't need an explanation. "we're fork'n knives and we're here to keep the party going! this song is by a band called he is we, this is i wouldn't mind and it's a good song, hope you like our version." and with that jemica let the music from columbo's guitar flow over her before her cue came. letting everything else in the world slip away she closed her eyes and just let the music find it's way out of her. she loved this song. it really just spoke to her in a way that very few other songs had lately. it spoke allot about the feelings she'd discovered for silas, and how she was finally not scared to let those feelings for someone show. she knew it had been a risk to use such a slow song for this concert, but from what she could tell the crowd seemed to be into it. she actually saw a few couples dancing or swaying or... in the case of a couple in the back making out and more. smirking at that she made a mental note to comment on that to fish, she knew he'd find it hilarious. as the song finished jemica felt her whole body sigh. smiling as the crowd cheered she turned and beamed at columbo and grabbed the mic she turned back to the crowd. "thank you! give it up for my amazing guitarist coloumbus!" she yelled letting the crowd cheer on columbo as she grinned and bowed to him. "and now we're gonna kick it up a notch, this is a song of our very own just for your ears! this is figure it out!" and with that they kicked into one of their masterpieces in jem's mind. it was a song she's been working on for a while. and while the last song described allot of her feelings for silas. this song described allot about a certain other boy in her life. past feelings, hurt feelings, confused feelings, hard feelings. things she hoped silas would help push away and heal. she moved around the stage, putting everything she had into it. she could see some in the crowd rocking out to it, some grooving along and a few that joined in the chorus after a few bars. she hoped it was sounding good, she'd have to ask fish later. "no one's ever who they're meant to be..." she finished crooning out on her knees in the middle of the stage. letting the mic fall to her side she took the first real breathes in that she had since coming on stage. grinning from ear to ear at the cheers she heard from the crowd. standing up she waved at the crowd and brought the mic back up "and now without further ado let's get this show really going. here are some of the most kick ass people i know, it's the riot van!!!"she yelled waving to the side stage where her brother and sister and their band were waiting. waving to the crowd as her and columbus walked off she threw her arms around him as soon as they were back stage and started jumping up and down "that was awesome! you were awesome! we were awesome! that was awesome!" she sang out giggling as she finally stopped ringing his neck and flopped down on the sofa backstage.[/blockquote] words:1064 lyrics: versaemerge - stranger for:the concert peeps wearing:here!notes:annnnnnnnnnnnnd yay!!

This is our decision to live fast and die young. We've got the vision, now let's have some fun. this was the first day of this journey. until this day, he as not lived as hard as he did previously. the crowd cheering and applauding lorelai made him jump a little bit. he was excited and anxious at the same time. all of his life he always wanted to become a musician, and now, he is one. well, newbie musician actually. but he didn't really care. he did not care what will they think of him when he'll be performing. doing what he loves the best is enough, and when the crowd cheers or applaud them both. he'd be on cloud nine. after all the hard work they've been through, they're finally here. their first actual live performance.
columbus peeked to see his friend perform, the second song had just started. he was anxious by the minute and worried as well. the excitement is building up inside of him and he can't seem to stop it. he glanced at jemica who was pacing back and forth, probably nervous as he was. but he wasn't that nervous, all his friends are out there to support him and if he's dad was here he'd be proud. they were a part of the weird sister's spawn, the other ones are performing as well. as far as he knew anyway. he slowly calmed down and looked at his childhood friend before picking up his guitar.
he examined his acoustic guitar while his other one is on the floor. this is it. it's his time to be known as him, columbus frederick thruston and not known as his dad's son or just another person from the weird sister spawn. everyone in the weird sister spawn is musically talented, its passed down, that mind some cheesy and everything but it's true. he couldn't help but think what they did in their first gig, were they nervous but both excited and anxious like they were? maybe. maybe not. but he shouldn't worry about that, should he? of course not. he was going to rock it.
he watched as lorelai finished off her last song with carter. he gave them high fives as they walked past him before he would perform. this is it. the moment he's been waiting for. finally here. walking up the stage he stood beside her and watched her as she took the mic. by this point, he was focusing on the crowd. many recognizable faces and some unknown ones, either way he was excited and just hoped that they'd like their music. he looked at her as she spoke and gave her a genuine smile, his guitar flew and landed on his arms. the next thing he knew they were already performing. columbus looked at the crowd and smiled, they were actually swaying around and those who knew the lyrics sang along. this is what he lived for. he continued playing the guitar and singing background vocals. looking at the couples he smiled, the song was one he loved the most. that's why they both decided the song would be good for them to sing even though it is a little bit risky. but what's life without a little risk?
the song has finished and they're about to sing the second song, he looked at jemica and laughed at her, mouthing a thank you. he picked his guitar up once again and started to strum the chords as jemica sing. it was one of their first songs that they ever wrote and he loved the result of it. in just a few seconds, they'd be done performing and he'd miss that. but he didn't mind, the experience he had today was amazing. one of the best days of his life, for sure. it was time for the riot van, and he was excited to see them perform. not going to lie but he's a big fan of the band. he waved to the crowd before walking off. "fuck yeah!" he screamed loudly, he was sure that the crowd could hear him. "we did great!! best day everrrrrrr.", he paused and let her talk. Tilting his head, he suppressed a chuckle, "DUDE. more like legendary!" he replied before looking outside to see the riot van perform. he's on the pursuit of happiness.

CAN'T STOP, WON'T STOP i must be dreaming• • • • • • • • • getting on stage with rory was easy. that was a fun, just for the hell of it guitar playing, and he loved mumford as much as rory did. but that... that didn't matter. that was his warm up gig. that was with his old ass- and yet still in perfect shape and trusty as ever- acoustic guitar. hanging around his shoulders and resting in his hands was now his brand new black gibson les paul that his dad bought him for the occasion. his sister was finishing her last song. his eyes closed as the lights went down. he nodded to maverick and fred, and squeezed his baby sister's shoulder. this was it. they were up. stret- their drummer- tapped his sticks on fish's back to calm him down. with a nod, fish ran out on stage and nodded to fish, who strummed the same chord as he did, just as stret started a drum roll. fish strummed the chord again, and then started finger picking a little bit. after about thirty seconds of their intro nonsense, fish looked back at stret and gave him a look. with that, fish started the first riff. girls do what they want was something he and maverick wrote together a few months back for the hell of it. it was nothing special, but they knew it best of all, and fish liked the range of the harmonies- which were on him and fred to sing, with cass in the background. once they were done with that one, fish stepped up to the mic, breathless as ever. "how we all feeling?! what you just heard was 'girls do what they want'. we are the riot van- made up of me, goldfish carter crumb on lead guitar. that sexy thing next to me is fredward weasley, the hot ass second guitar player, who sings like a babe. that oddball behind me is stret, our gorgeous and always sweaty drummer. and that one, right over there- he's brax, and he plays bass because he's hot too. and last, and certainly not least is my kid sister- cass crumb." he said, skipping mav on purpose. he fixed his fingers to make to play the next song when he heard rory scream "MAVERICK." he looked out and pointed his thumb at his best mate. "who, him? man. this... fine hunk of man..." he picked up the mic and started for mav, swinging an arm around him. "he's maverick mclaggen. he's seventeen years young, enjoys long walks on the beach, provoking mermaids, eating ice cream from the other's ice cream cone... and then not calling you back the next day." he grinned and let out a laugh. "he is our fearless leader and my best friend." making his way back to his post, he put his mic back and took out another pick. "this next one is i must be dreaming."once that was done, fish nodded to cass, who was waiting for her spotlight. she took maverick's place in the middle of the stage. fish waited for her, since she started the song. it was just like they rehearsed. this was her time to shine, and it was solely her on vocals, except the harmonies maverick provided. it was called arizona, for whatever reason. it was her song, through and through. once that was finished, carter sighed. so far, so good.

WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUTwill you take me home with you? braxton was another person when he was on stage. it was like he was a whole new person. there was an entire other side to him that no one ever saw. when he was on stage, when he was playing music... he was in the zone. it didn’t matter that there were tons of people out there. it didn’t matter that they were all watching him, listening to him. the pressure was on, yeah. but he hardly noticed. when that bass was in his hands, there was nothing else that mattered. it was just him and the music, and the other guys on stage with him. and honestly? it felt great. he didn’t have to worry about what anyone thought, because he didn’t care. he was having the time of his life. sometimes braxton wondered if this was what he should do with his life. he didn’t have any other ideas for his future, after all. and being up here on stage? he may have been a really quiet dude, but he didn’t feel weird up here at all. it felt natural. and when fish introduced him, he smiled and gave the audience a wave, not feeling strange at all. it really didn’t make sense, how he felt up here. how he was terrified of one-on-one conversation, but put him in front of all these people and he’s fine.
he could say that over and over and it just still wouldn’t make sense. there was a smile on braxton’s face that never left as he played his bass, bouncing along with the music like he was, well... outspoken. like he wasn’t normally awkward in person. once the set was over and he was back offstage, he’d go right back to his regular person. but for now? damn, he felt good. he was looking up, he was smiling, he was laughing, he was playing along with whatever fish and mav and the other guys — and girl — were coming up with. and then they got to his favorite song. it was odd that it was his favorite, really, because of what it made him think of. but that was the good part about it, too. it really felt like he was getting over his past. the band started playing life of the party, and brax never stopped smiling. sometimes it really felt like he was healing. he sang along quietly to the music, a step or more back from his mic the whole time. “let’s get one thing straight, you’re gonna regret you left me...” even though he missed her too. whatever.
the song ended, and braxton grinned as he looked up and watched the audience clap for them. being on stage... it made him feel useful, it made him feel important. and that felt good. he muttered a soft thanks into his mic after the other, less awkward, guys covered the rest. then he watched cass go up to mav for take my hand, another one he loved. it was like the middle of the set was the best part for him, rather than where most musicians started getting tired. he was having the time of his life.
