LIGHT UP YOUR FACE WITH GLADNESS
( HIDE EVERY TRACE OF SADNESS )
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Her brother really was kind of awesome. Well, all of her family was kind of awesome, but she was probably closest to Goldfish. It wasn't that she and Jem weren't close, she fed the girl's teacup addiction for Merlin's sake, but she and Carter had just always... understood each other more. Even though he sometimes made her want to slap him, or Maverick was just the most annoying person alive, or when he just kept. Going. On. About Emery, then she loved him. After all, he was her baby brother, and despite the fact that he'd argue he wasn't a baby any more, she had full big sister rights to call him whatever the hell she wanted. And if that was baby brother, that was what it was going to be. Even with the actual baby that she was going to have now. That thought never failed to bring a smile to her face; she really was going to be a mother. It was... scary. Amazing. The most wonderful experience of her life. Wrapping an arm around her own waist, she leaned on the wall, watching her brother from back stage. Saira might have been the most organised person in existence, or at least in the Weird Sisters clan, so it really wasn't surprising that she'd been asked to help with this. At first, Carter had tried to talk her into performing, but she wasn't exactly into the same music that kids at Hogwarts were. Plus, she wasn't a big performer, unlike the rest of her family, so she was happy to sit back and watch the rest of them strut their stuff. She'd help organise and hang around backstage and probably end up buying them all something to drink when Maverick gave her those puppy dog eyes.
But not herself. She wasn't drinking, not any more. She wouldn't do that to her baby. Her hand rested on the slight curve of her stomach as she stared at the stage, forcing a smile onto her face as the crowd went up once more for the final number. There wasn't going to be an encore, no matter how much the crowd wanted there to be; there were noise issues anyway, and if Saira had to remind Carter of that she was going to feel like a bitch, but it was how it was going to be. It was easy for her to turn her focus to smile at her brother as he left the stage, though, because she was just so... well, some would say irritatingly positive, but she hoped she wasn't that bad. Pushing a lock of hair behind her ears, she smoothed down the front of her skirt, glad that she wasn't showing at all yet. It wouldn't be long before she could tell everyone, she just... wanted to be sure, wanted it to be three months. Then there surely couldn't be any issues. Bouncing a little on the balls of her feet, she wiggled her fingers at her brother as he left the stage, happy that she was going to get to spend some time with him – and maybe even avoid the subject of Emery for a while. It might have been pointless, but she just couldn't help it. She didn't like the girl.
"You didn't do half-bad, little brother," she said when she caught his eye, grinning up at him. The fact that he was over a foot taller than her was annoying at times, even if these heels made up some of the difference. Shaking her head, she wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, maybe a little more than was technically necessary for someone who'd just come off the stage sweating like he'd run a marathon. But she couldn't help that, either; she missed him lately, and she wanted to spend time with her little brother. Screw anyone else who thought they could butt in at the moment. Waving at Mav, she pulled back and looked at Carter, the smile still wide on her face. "So, I was thinking... we could go get something to eat? A drink? You can bring some of your friends back to my place afterwards if you want, if you promise not to trash the place." Of course, any time Carter was there she'd kind of have to spend an hour putting everything back in the right place anyway, but she had to tease him at least a little. "I miss you, kid." she said after a few moments, her face falling only slightly when she spoke.
