all of my chances swim like sinking ships,
this time is it, i'll drown or make her mine. Looking up at the stage, Melanie Boardman couldn’t even remember why she’d said no to Ryder Higgs. That was not too long ago, but now she was beyond ecstatic that she’d given him a chance. He really was a great guy. His band was playing in the spring concert at Hogwarts, and what sort of girlfriend would she be if she wasn’t cheering him on in the front row? He really was a great guy, and leading him on for so long before giving in always made her feel a little guilty. They’d only been dating for about a month now, but it was a wonderful month. She’d never told him that he was her first steady boyfriend. She’d kissed before, and some of the other stuff, but she’d never gotten serious enough to go all the way. Even this relationship wasn’t that serious, but she felt like it could certainly get there. When she’d met Ryder, never did she think she’d feel this way about him. It was almost as if it was fate. She was trying so hard to make it seem like she wasn’t excited to have one of those movie romances, but she was. He treated her so right, and he sure was nice to look at. It helped that dating him made a lot of people very jealous. That wasn’t the reason she was with him though. Not even close. She was with him because he’d asked, over and over. She’d rejected him, but he stuck with it. Even now, she wasn’t entirely sure. He didn’t really seem to be head over heels in love with her either. It was just a teenage relationship, but it would certainly do for now. Really, what did she have to lose? She refused to be one of those girls who ran from love. She was closed off enough as it was.
Well, she used to be. It was strange how much Ryder had changed her in only the few months since they’d met. As far as she knew as of now, they were all changes for the better. She could think of a few examples she was showing right at that very second. For starters, she was at this concert. Yes, she was supporting her boyfriend, but Mel was never really one for school wide functions. She barely liked the people at her school. Then again, since dating such an outgoing guy like Ryder, she’d been a little more social herself. Right now, she was in a group of girls who were all dressed and acting almost exactly like her. She was assuming they were the groupie kind as well. Melanie sure felt like a groupie right now. She was dressed in a crop top, for Merlin’s sake! It wasn’t her normal attire, but she wanted Ryder to look down in the crowd and see his smoking hot girlfriend, rocking a sign that read “Bassists do it deeper,” then “Ryder Higgs” with a heart in yellow glitter right beneath it. She definitely stood out. She wanted him to be just as proud of her as she was of him. She was definitely lost in their music, since they were all so talented. Jaxon’s voice was amazing and the crowd loved it, and Mel couldn’t stop smiling. She’d been with Ryder long enough now to know all about something that was so important to him, so she knew all the words to most of the songs they were playing. Finally, as they were playing ‘You Had Me At Hello,’ she started to make her way through the crowd so she could get to see him.
When their set was finally over, she waited patiently for him at the exit from the backstage area, leaving her sign leaning against the stage. She knew she could probably get in to see him, but she didn’t particularly want to. After the performance they just gave, she was pretty sure he’d be all hyped up and want to celebrate with his band.. She took that as a sign to stay put. When he wanted to see her, he’d come find her, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t make it easier for him. However, she wasn’t waiting very long. He found her barely even five minutes after they left the stage. As soon as she spotted him, she moved toward him as fast as she could in her heels and wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. She planted a short kiss right on his lips, pulled back, and smiled as bright as she could manage. ”Ryder, I am so proud of you.” She left one arm wrapped loosely around him, and picked up her sign to show him, laughing at herself. She smirked again. ”Motivation,” she stated simply. She tilted her head for a second, wondering why he wasn’t with his friends, but decided not to comment on it. If he wanted to spend time with her, she wasn’t going to complain. ”Seriously, you guys were perfect. You should’ve seen the crowd. This fourth year next to me was almost in tears. But don’t worry, I told her to back off,” she teased. She felt like she was going on forever, but he genuinely didn’t seem to mind. She chalked it all up to excitement. How life could get any better for either of them was totally beyond her.

THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT-----------------------is breath stealing how was one to describe being on stage? there was no such feeling as to stand on stage rocking out to songs he helped write on an instrument he loved to death, there was really nothing more glorious than that. how could there be. he was on stage, pulling his favorite moves, watching the crowd go wild and playing sweet old Andy. that was his bass, he named all his basses, it stopped him from going insane when he was alone but he wasn't alone anymore. she was finally his. he'd been melanie boardman grow up from the very start, becoming the brightest witch he'd ever seen, and into his beautiful woman he needed to kiss, hold, woo. everything the whole shi bang. that was how this love story began. it was just after new years in his sixth year, ryder just having lost his virginity, totally freaked him out by the way, was trying to find peace in himself and then melanie walked in the every house common room and just the way she talked, walked, stood was enough to make him want to take her out on a date and that was just what he had asked her. once then, to which she'd rejected him. but ryder was persistent, until he got hexed, jinxed or sent to the hospital wing ryder was not about to give up in any circumstance. he asked her again in march, then once again before they left school. when they came back to school it was harder to find her seeing as the students just kept piling on and on and on. but he'd managed to find her and asked her out again in october bringing up the count to four times. then ryder almost lost hope... almost. he asked her out again about a month ago and gave her a long speech about how it wasn't fair to reject him so many times if she wouldn't at least accept one date and if on said date she didn't want to go on another one then ryder would more than likely step back and not ever ask her out again. it was a risk, yes, but it was a risk he was willing to take. he made sure to woo her completely on that first date, make her feel exactly how he wanted her to feel every time they would be together and soon enough they were dating. for a month, an entire month. sure it wasn't as long as one would hope but it was still a month and there had never been a moment when he wasn't as happy as he was at that moment on stage, closing his eyes feeling the effect of the crowd, the music, his andy.
upon opening his eyes to change chords, he saw his name in a yellow glitter heart. he was already sweating, the nice sexy sweat course, but he definitely saw her. he smiled at the sign, bassists do it deeper, he absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to lift her tiny little self off of the ground. time for their encore, you had me at hello, a song he and jaxon had written, which had taken a lot of doing by the way since they couldn't agree on the melody and some lyrics, and then he would be free to hug and kiss his girlfriend, who speaking off which was following her with his eyes as she left the crowd towards the backstage area. last note, last chord, last noise, last lyric. the crowd started to scream so loud ryder was almost sure that he would lose his hearing. he yelled a "rock on," into the mike and took off his bass going down the stairs. ryder ran a hand through his hair to try and shake off some of the sweat off of his face so he wouldn't disgust mel. the first thing he did after he got off stage was quickly congratulate his band mates for a great set and put away andy in her storage, the second? find that sexy girl with the sign. he spotted her hair, then the sign, then her body and walked faster until he was super close to her. she swong her arms around his neck and he hugged her back around the waist, lifting her. he was so happy. he kissed her back and smiled at her words. "thanks," he kissed her forehead. he laughed at the sign and tucked her closer to his body. "i do love motivation," he whispered closely to her ear. he smiled again. "good cause you know there's only one girl for me.... andy course," he smiled a laugh obviously kidding about his bass being the only girl in his life. "sorry that i'm all sweaty, just performed an entire set and all," he smiled again. it was like this when he was with her... he just couldn't stop smiling. all of my chances swim like sinking ships,
this time is it, i'll drown or make her mine. The main reason Melanie had even bothered showing up at this concert was because she knew. Even though she was going out with Ryder now, there would be other concerts. They were going to make it big. He definitely had the talent, and she had more faith in him than she had in anything else. To be completely honest, she didn’t even want to admit how much she had, because that would make it real. She could just go to other shows. What was so special about this show? Nothing. The point was that every show was special to Ryder, so she planned on being there for him every step of the way. Whatever Was important to him was important to her now. Even if they’d only been dating for a short time, she knew they’d be together for a while. It was bound to happen. He was so persistent. She couldn’t keep fighting her feelings for such a great guy because she wasn’t ready for anything yet. It was the best choice. The thing she really knew was how it felt to be a musician. Melanie herself liked to sing, though nobody but her grandfather knew that, not even her new boyfriend. It was a great feeling to know how talented you are. Music always had a way of speaking to people, and that was just when they listened to it. The connection was that much more powerful when you were creating. He had this smile on his face when he was playing Andy that could completely outshined any look he gave her, but she didn’t mind. She knew he’d never look at a girl the way he looked at his bass. It wasn’t that hard to come to terms with when you really cared for someone.
She wasn’t going to turn their relationship into an epic romance,. She was never going to be that girl, whether he wanted to or not. She wasn’t a firm believer in fairytales. Right now, they were still in their honeymoon stage, which explained the desperate need to be around each other. Eventually it would happen. She wasn’t living in denial about that. Mel had seen it happen too many times before. The only thing she really had stake in was reaching her goal of being in the Wizengamot like her dad. That, and that Ryder’s dreams of becoming famous would come true. She wasn’t being cynical about it either, which she sort of figured was a sign of her maybe letting her guard down a little bit. She hadn’t even thought of bringing up the prospect to her boyfriend that they were not soul mates. Somewhere deep inside of her, probably even too deep for her to acknowledge its’ existence, Mel was hoping that he would change her mind and prove her wrong. The way things were going now, if they stayed this steady, she could see herself maybe even falling in love. The way they locked eyes while he was on stage was enough to make her melt. It was almost too much to bear. It only increased her need to be with him, so she moved from the crowd a little earlier than expected. She was tempted to climb up on stage just to be next to him sooner, but that could only lead to trouble. She knew she must’ve looked so lovesick at that moment, waiting, arms folded, for her boyfriend after his show. It would’ve been embarrassing.
Yeah, maybe if he hadn’t been true to himself and been just as eager to see her when he came out too. The look in both of their eyes when they were close enough to touch each other could warm even the coldest of hearts. Any judgmental looks she was receiving before were replaced with just genuine smiles. It was so hard to see two kids so happy together and not gain a little bit of your hope back. Oh, how she adored how strong he was and how he loved to remind her. He was so much taller, and sweaty, and he’d just played the show of a lifetime, and she couldn’t have been happier. ”And I do try to motivate,” she giggled, moving back and shaking her waist a little bit so he could get a better look at what she was wearing. If she was going to fit in and meet his band and finally come out of her shell, she was going to do right, and she was going to impress. She grinned and jokingly smacked his chest. She found his sense of humor absolutely adorable. Even if it was mean sometimes, which it rarely was, he found aw ay to sugar coat it. He could make anyone around him smile. She grabbed his shirt with both hands, pulled him down to her level, kissed his cheek and smirked. ”I actually find it pretty hot.” She lifted his arm up now and ducked under it, so his arm was draped around her shoulders. This way, they could stay close and head over to the refreshment stand to get him a water bottle. “Come on babe, let’s get you hydrated. Somehow I feel like my lipgloss just isn’t going to cut it.“ She knew as soon as they entered the crowd that she wasn’t going to have as much time with him, friends congratulating him and whatnot, so she was soaking it up as much as possible for the time being. If worse came to worst, she’d just make time for him later on in the evening, when things calmed down. She looked up at him and smiled. His was contagious.
