*---- cuz in my dreams, i'm twenty- three and she's that girl right next to me this was foreign territory. like, we’re talking siberia type foreign. maybe even like… atlantas. or something far out like that. any way you put it, this was new ground. maybe… maybe not new ground, but unfamiliar and forgotten. it was like going back to his old backyard, from when he was a kid. he was sure that after he looked around for a while, he would eventually remember everything he used to about it. it would just take some time. no, he actually had no intention of going back to his old house in england and roaming around his back yard. it was one of those… analogies? was that was they were called? yeah. one of those. what he was actually trying to say was simple; this was going to be hard to adjust to. maybe not as hard as he was anticipating, but it would be still be… an interesting experiment. on the bright side, the christmas party went absolutely swimmingly. alcohol mixed with other girls that were barely dressed still weren’t enough to make his eyes wander. so yeah, maybe this whole… monogamy thing would actually work. conner credited it to the completely and totally hotness of his girlfriend. of all the things kyra beyer was, gorgeous was definitely one of them. gorgeous, fun, quirky, silly, amazing- take your pick. she was all of those and more. she always had been, frills and all. those were the things that made conner fall for her. they weren’t the only reasons, but they were part of it. she was amazing in every way possible, and absolutely perfect for him. everything about her was perfect for him. she was able to make him smile when no one else could, not even his baby sister, or adalynn. adalynn always had a way of making him smile, but not quite the way kyra could. maybe it was the memory of her in that bundle of frills her mother called a dress. maybe it was the goofy way she would smile at him. maybe it was her perpetually mismatched socks. whatever it was, he wouldn’t trade it for the world. she was so unlike most of the girls he was ever with. usually he went for the girly types; the ones who relished the idea of a school uniform skirt so they could hike it up, unbutton half the buttons on their shirts and complete the odd fetish with pigtails. he preferred girls like kyra- actually no. he just preferred kyra, who crinkled her nose at the idea of uniforms, and would rather be wearing mismatched socks, a band tee shirt, a vest and jeans. that was the girl he was in love with. the school girl types were more for one night stands. that was exactly what he told her, too. that the other girls were his ‘type’, seeing as his type always seemed to be wrong for him. with kyra not being his type, it would all work out, right? that was his whole reasoning behind most of it. and anyway, she already knew almost everything there was to know about him. how awesome was that? he couldn’t ask for more than that. not having to ask was pretty much the awesome part about it. she already knew what kind of drinks he liked, what snacks he would hoard away in his room, what shoelaces he liked better. she was just, like… made for him. whatever god there was or wasn’t knew to make her for him and him alone… and it was awesome. yeah, sure. monogamy was going to be a big adjustment, going from a different girl every other night to just one. but he could do it. he knew he could.
conner wasn’t quite the most romantic of people. sure, he knew how to be romantic. he pulled it off for a year and a half with annelle, didn’t he? he was out of practice, but he knew what to do. romance with kyra would be a completely different ball park though. annelle was the girly girl, the one who appreciated candles and bad girly girl country music. with kyra, it would be different. maybe candles would still apply. and music would still be a go, it would just be acoustic rock type music. not girl singers and country music. they had the same taste in music. the eighties power ballads were a definite no. but maybe some stuff from like, the nineties or early 2000’s. or he could always ask nate what his girls were into. if there was anyone who knew how to romance a girl it was nate. but then again… fuck. valentines day was just… it was going to suck. he was bad at all this. there was no denying it. kyra was going to be so disappointed at how unprepared he was for this whole… boyfriend thing. the worst part would be her reaction. she wouldn’t get all mad at him either. she’d pretend that it was alright, or that it was what she expected. that would hurt the most. mad kyra was fucking scary, but sad, disappointed kyra who put on a fake smile was… depressing. he wouldn’t be able to deal with that. alec wouldn’t know anything about kyra’s romantic preferences, of course. not that conner would ever ask alec for help. the only one that would know would be that prick of an ex of hers, rett. he was a tool if conner ever saw one. yeah, right. pot calling the kettle black and whatnot, but conner, of all people, had the knowledge of tools to be able to judge one. takes one to know one. there was no way he was asking rett for help with this. it just wasn’t helping. so yeah, he was going to have to wing it. what was it that girls would like on days like valentine’s day? pink. flowers. chocolate. frilly things that conner had no knowledge of. those would be his sister’s answers. so she was useless on this. and he didn’t have many other girl friends to ask. adalynn, of course, but she was in a bad spot, and he didn’t want to ask her. fuck, he was screwed. the only thing he could think of that would be semi romantic was like… the great hall, with no one else in it. yeah, way to be original, conner. so, that would be his plan. take kyra to the great hall, all alone.
avoiding kyra for the remainder of the night until the date was going to be hard, eh? but he would have to do it. pulling a piece of parchment from his potions book, conner wrote out a short note to kyra, detailing where to meet him at what time, and to look as amazing as usual. he wasn’t going to ask her to wear a dress or curl her hair. if she showed up in skinny jeans and a tee shirt, he’d still want to tear her clothes off, like usual. what she wanted to wear would be up to her, and conner would still find her gorgeous. he nearly ran to take a nice long shower, allowing the hot water to run over his skin while he thought about the night. it was going to be good. it had to be good, for kyra’s sake. once he was nice and showered, he went back to his dorm and started searching for clothes. he settled on a nice black (with white pinstripes) button down, dark jeans and a pair of nice shoes, complete with one of his new black hats. he couldn’t go to dinner without a hat. when he asked nate to pull some strings, he decided to put all his faith in his best mate. there would be dinner and drinks, if nate could pull this off. conner had no doubt he could though. he was nate fucking carrow. there was no way he couldn’t. conner went as far to put on new cologne and everything. this was going to be good. it just… had to be. once he was ready, he searched for the flowers he ordered by owl a few hours before. he was surprised that they ended up being as pretty as they were, what with an owl bringing them and everything. he grabbed those and the gift he picked out over christmas break (and conveniently hid within his boxers, the last place kyra would look, or so he hoped) and started to the entrance, where he asked kyra to meet him. when he saw her, he grinned and held out his arm so that she could take it. “shall we?” he asked. other than that, he didn’t say much to her, wanting to keep this whole… james dean, humphrey bogart thing going. once he opened the doors to the great hall, he grinned even more. damn, nate pulled through. at the slytherin table, there sat two place setting and two glasses of what looked like… champagne? damn, nate was classy. he owed the guy now. it was way better than conner could’ve done on his own. this was awesome. he gestured for kyra to sit down, still grinning like an idiot. “you look amazing, by the way.” he said to her, taking his seat. “happy valentine’s day, kyra.” he said with a smile.

conner stretton word count • 2387 playing on itunes • complicated rihanna notes • sorry for the wait! LOVE these two! credit • all to moi![/ul] grumbling up yet another piece of parchment, this essay just wasn't making any progress at all. it seemed her mind just couldn't focus on the task at hand. the last five pieces of parchment Kyra would finally start to get somewhere on her potions essay and then her mind would go off on thoughts about Conner. suddenly she was no longer writing about drying mandrake but about how pretty Conner's eyes were, or how good he smelled. it was getting a bit ridiculous and yet she couldn't keep herself from laughing everytime she realized what she did. she was sure Conner would laugh as well but she was forcing herself to stay away from him. no he hadn't done anything wrong, it was near impossible for him to do something wrong in Kyra's books. she was forcing herself because she had a stack of homework that only kept growing because she kept putting it off to go spend time with him. not only was her mind occupied with thoughts of him but majority of her time had been as well. Kyra didn't need any further reason to upset her mother so she had to force herself to focus on her studies. it was hard, especially when they were in the same class. anything the Professor said went right over her head because she would be too busy looking at him. noticing the way the color of his shirt brought out his eyes, or how good he looked in one color over the other. it was insane but she couldn't seem to control it. anyone who was anyone could tell that she was in head over heels for him. setting her quill down she rose up from the desk she was sitting at in one of the abandoned rooms and walked over to the window. how she was going to ever get any work done with Conner in her life was beyond her, but she was hardly complaining. being away from him wasn't exactly the easiest thing, especially since there was no one else she wanted to be around. her mind rationalized that he was in the same Potions class as her so he'd be working on the same essay but her practical sense screamed at her to stay put. thinking about Conner was preventing her from getting any work done, being in the same room as him would be even worse. unless of course they were studying biology or chemistry. ah, those would be fun to study with him most definitely. sighing and shaking her head these kind of thoughts weren't helping her focus at all. marching back to the desk where her parchment sat she took up the chair once again and stared down at the yellowed paper. this was useless.
classes had ended a short time ago, after which she had went down to the Kitchens because she had been starving. after pigging out on goldfish crackers and oreo cookies, an odd combination but a delicious one if you asked Kyra she had come up to where she was now. ever since she had been getting no where. she had no idea where Mr Stretton was or what he was doing but she had missed him the moment she had left him. it was weird, seeing as they still weren't official but in Kyra's mind they might as well have been. she didn't want to be with anyone else, no other guy tickled her fancy at all. she wanted Conner and after a semi meltdown she was determined to stick through whatever came her way to be with him. the meltdown hadn't been all bad, she had gotten her best friend back but it hadn't been good either. it had her doubting pretty much everything, had her being someone other then herself which was what she hated the most. ever since that day though she refused to let herself notice the bad things and focused on the good things. Conner, no matter what was done, was definitely a good thing. Kyra didn't care how long it took for things to be official between them, she wasn't going anywhere. when she finally gave up on finishing her essay she shoved her books back into her bag and made her way back to the Slytherin Common Area. with all plans on making a quick stop at her dorm then going to see Conner, all of that changing the moment she got back to her dorm. upon setting her bag down upon the floor she found and owl sitting on her pillow for her. it was from the man who had been on her mind, the man who was and always would be her distraction. she couldn't keep the smile from her lips if she tried as she read the details of the enclosed note. having seemed to have read it over a hundred times she finally set the owl down and rose up off her bed, not even realizing she had sat down. approaching her wardrobe and biting down on her lower lip as she looked inside. figuring out what to wear was going to be the impossible part. the last time she had to dress for a special occasion with Conner, she had some unannounced help from Adalynn something Kyra didn't think she'd be getting this time. seeing as Adalynn wasn't really talking to her after the whole Alec thing and Kyra didn't really blame her. she wouldn't even know what to say to the girl if she did come talk to her. she had never before seen Alec hurt the way he was over a girl, even if he was now with Arietta. something that took far too much thought for Kyra to really get into. sure she liked Arietta and everything but she just hoped Alec wasn't rushing into something with someone else too soon. she didn't want to see him get hurt again and merlin knew that Arietta had already made a dumb move where Alec was concerned once before. so she didn't exactly trust the girl, but if Alec loved her or had any feelings for her then she'd eventually come around to her as well.
nearly jumping when she heard the girls dorm door open she turned to face the beautiful blonde that had come in. Molly Weasley, the only Weasley to ever be sorted into Slytherin. she was gorgeous and one of the few girls that Conner knew that Kyra could actually stand. well more then stand, the girls actually got along. Molly was the only female friend of Conner's that Kyra thought actually had a brain and she could actually be around for more then a few seconds. smiling she immediately asked Molly for some help on what to wear that evening. the girl was a fashion icon, if anyone would know what to wear it was going to be her. Kyra was horribly bad at the whole date outfit thing. she could never seem to decide on something that looked good enough to be spectacular to wear. with Rett she normally just went out in jeans and whatever she felt comfortable in. with Conner though, she wanted to put that little bit of effort in. to show up in something that would knock his socks off and catch him off guard because he wouldn't expect it from her. she knew that he would love her in anything she wore but she wanted to make the moments with him just as special for him. nevermind the fact that it was Valentine's Day and Kyra didn't have a clue what to do or what to expect. she had never actually celebrated with a guy she was seeing, never being with a guy at that time. sure she went out with her guy friends or even female friends but it wasn't the same. not that it took much to impress her, she would have been happy sitting in the common room as long as she was in Conner's arms.
after what felt like hours of going through so many outfits Kyra was still as hopeless as she started. Molly insisted that she wear a dress because it was Valentine's Day but Kyra never exactly felt comfortable in dresses. not since she was interrupted changing from the frilly device her mother had put her in on the way to Durmstrang. though she did have to admit that the dark blue dress Molly suggested was pretty, she just wasn't sure if it was her. she had tried it on a few times and after a bit of arguing from the blond she finally gave in. she agreed to wear the bloody dress, but she refused to wear the heels. no way. nuuh. wasn't gonna happen. she loved molly, but heels were her down fall. she preferred flats. it wouldn't be very good if she tripped and ruined her date with Conner. nope, it wasn't gonna happen. pretty blue and silver flats were what she was gonna wear. yup. Molly didn't exactly like that but she left her with getting ready because she had something of her own to get too. though Kyra couldn't thank her enough and decided that she would have to buy the girl something the next time she was down in Hogsmeade. having the dress and the shoes picked out all she needed to do was get ready and she'd be good to go. having a nice hot shower, attempting to wash the butterflies that were growing in her stomach away. returning to the dorm in just a towel, her hair down and dripping wet. picking the outfit was one of the hardest parts but everything else wasn't exactly either.
deciding to use magic to assist her, Kyra sat down at her desk and used her wand to run through make up choices and updo's for her hair. when she couldn't find one that she liked she left her hair down, parting it more to the left then the right the highlights in her hair showing through. adding a silver studded belt to the dress Molly had picked out, to add a flare of herself in there Kyra looked at herself in the mirror. time was running out and she really didn't want to be late so she hoped to merlin Conner would like what she was wearing. sliding her feet into her flats Kyra grabbed her black wizard robe, sticking her wand in the pocket, and threw it on. grabbing Conner's present which had been hidden beneath her bed since she had purchased it Kyra made her way out of the Dorm and through the Common Room. the butterflies in her stomach taking flight to the point that she felt like she was going to throw up. Valentine's Day had been on her mind ever since they had returned from Christmas Holiday's and finding a gift for Conner hadn't exactly been an easy task. it wasn't as though she could buy him a pair of mismatched socks for something like this, no it had to be something far more special. so she searched Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade high and low until she had finally come up with the perfect gift for him. she found it, covered in dust in a rather spooky store that she normally wouldn't have entered but desperate times had called for desperate measures. she was surprised to find it in a wizarding store but nonetheless she wasn't complaining. it was a vintage comic book, in plastic and framed. knowing Conner's love for cartoon's she hoped to merlin that he would like it. once she had cleaned up the frame and everything it looked amazing and she had learned that the item was actually priceless which was saying something for the price she had paid for it. the smile that graced Kyra's lips the moment she saw Conner practically reached her ears and would have hurt her cheeks if she hadn't been so bloody happy. taking his arm when he offered it to her she nodded, eyeing him just slightly. he looked incredible, amazing didn't even describe hime enough. walking quietly with him wasn't something she was use too and it made the butterflies in her stomach even worse.
following him into the Great Hall, rather unprepared for the evening since she had no idea what to expect of tonight. her eyes going slightly large the moment she saw the Slytherin table, it was unbelievable. never before had anyone done anything like this for her. she would have never been able to prepare for this in a million years. "its beautiful Conner." she finally breathed out, having no idea he went through so much trouble for her. "its beyond anything i've ever imagined." which was true, romance wasn't exactly something she ever put much thought into. it was one place she differed from other girls, but she appreciated everything he went through nonetheless. smiling as a blush worked its way onto her cheeks from his compliment, taking the seat that was before her. "thank you." compliments were still something she was getting used too. "you look rather incredible yourself." looking across the table at him, still trying to wrap her mind around how she had gotten this lucky. "happy valentine's day Conner." Kyra's eyes held his, the smile remaining on her lips. reaching up and tucking a few pieces of stray hair behind her ear she was blown away already and the evening had just begun. "this truly is beautiful Conner. no one has ever done anything like this for me before. i can only imagine all the trouble you went through." the sincerity that was in her tone couldn't be faked, she was seriously at a loss for words. tonight was going to be a night she'd never forget.
