SCARS OF YOUR LOVE LEAVE ME breathless CAN'T HELP FEELING THAT WE COULD'VE HAD IT ALL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - lily had finished grading papers again. with the completion of this task, she generally found the need to get out of the castle, no matter the hour. shoving the papers inside the middle drawer of her desk, lilith barbary tucked a small piece of hair behind her ears, standing from her desk and making sure to lock the classroom door behind her. she wasn't a terrible professor, because she was fairly sure that she wasn't the only teacher at hogwarts that had a separate firewhiskey stash of her own. that being the case, lily always made sure to lock both her office and her classroom door whenever she left. she generally left the classroom open for detentions and the like, but her office was always locked regardless. decending the stairs, lily quickly smiled as she recalled her previous years at hogwarts. she typically always found herself more or less running down the flights of moving stairs towards her next class, considering she was always in the library doing some sort of last-minute touches on her homework. an overbearing, OCD ravenclaw. oh, how she missed those days. it was wonderful, being at the top of the educational food chain -- it probably had been less than surprising that she had come back as an educator herself -- but she still missed being carefree. not as carefree as a gryffindor might have been, but carefree nonetheless.
straightening the neck of her t-shirt and tucking her wand inside her jeans pocket, lily pushed through the door connecting the great hall to the world that awaited her outside. she generally made a few loops around the black lake to clear her head before she headed back in for a good night's rest, but tonight she felt like doing something different. lily typically liked consistency (again, the OCD ravenclaw thing) but after grading papers for what had felt like decades, she needed something that could set her on edge. and besides, it wasn't like she'd get in that much trouble, right? she was a professor now, she could do whatever she wanted. besides, it wasn't like severus snape didn't have a dark side. he probably wandered the forbidden forest from top to bottom, side to side. a small, unfamiliar smirk appearing on her lips, lily made her way towards her new destination. it was weird, how creepy hogwarts was at night. it almost reminded her of the many horror flicks her brother had made her sit through, all of which she'd had nightmares about for the following weeks. lily wasn't one to be scared of most things, but anything abnormal was something to be feared somewhat. well, unless it was a person...then it just needed to be understood. but creatures? no way, jose. there were killing curses for that. okay, that was a little too slytherin-ish, but...mentally, she was getting her point across.
lately, lily had resorted to using several slytherin traits. she'd had to be entirely resourceful in the past few weeks, considering what she was currently going through. well, that made it sound like a tragedy. she wasn't medea, for goodness sake. but she was still going through something, and as a woman, that gave her means to gripe about it as she saw fit. lily couldn't see marcus as a problem -- he was a person, and they had some kind of chemistry going on. she couldn't explain it, but...there was definitely something there. granted, him holding back that he was a student was nothing short of infuriating, but she couldn't display that frustration around him. it was a weird, unexplainable thing, but she couldn't. as his professor, she couldn't do much about anything that involved the two of them. the past summer had been brilliant, and she loved that he liked star wars as much as she did -- but he was still a student, and she was still his professor. it was supposed to be a parent-child relationship, not a lovey-dovey one. merlin, she had screwed things up big time. at the moment, she was just crossing her fingers and praying that her mother didn't catch wind of it. because if miriam barbary heard anything -- anything at all -- lilith penelope barbary would be no more.
the more lily thought about her mother, the more the thought of a future between herself and marcus began to frighten her. there was such a large age gap between them...what was it, six years? merlin, she was a pedophile. no, no, no. she had gone through this already. was it safe to be thinking about it this much? she would surely drive herself mad if she kept worrying about the future in such intricate detail. whatever happened, happened. that's just the way it is, lily. deal with it. clenching her fists at the idea of her subconscious telling her to shut up, she quickly turned her head towards an approaching figure. "bloody hell, dude. where in neptune did you come from?" she asked, a small smile at the corner of her lips to assure the stranger that she was kidding. well, slightly anyways. lily hadn't really expected to meet anyone at the edge of the forbidden forest, so she really wasn't sure how to act at the moment. dismissing the thought of any sudden danger away, she crossed one arm over the other, glancing at the man through the darkness. his form seemed familiar to her, though she couldn't place a name to him. "say...you look familiar. have i met you before?" as quickly as she pulled out her wand and uttered the spell, her eyes widened slightly as both of their faces were revealed in the light. "call me crazy, but...are you lucas disney, by any chance?" a grin was quickly forming, much like the one lucas had probably seen in the childhood they had spent together. her eyes still full of wonder, she awaited the strangers response and secretly hoped that she had been right. despite her previous worries with marcus, another set of butterflies seemed to consume her and held her where she stood. the thought of being around a stranger in the dark was unsettling, but the thought of re-discovering a childhood friend had her more excited than ever.

lucas was on his way into hogwarts. it was fairly late in the evening and all the classes were finished. however, lucas was not technically a teacher, and well also nor did he have a class to teach that evening. the class that he was teaching was the next day, early in the morning and so the headmaster had suggested that lucas come in late and sleep in the castle for the night and then teach in the morning – the headmaster had also mentioned that perhaps it might be a good opportunity for lucas to see his younger sister. joey disney his adopted sister, but lucas certainly considered her a blood relative, as with kevin and ralph. after all they were a perfect family, far better than had the two children been left in their respective families – or lucas been left at the orphanage. that would not have been a good life to lead, and well lucas was certainly glad he had not had to undergo that stress. he knew that despite her happiness now, joey was still dealing with her troubles, and it was definitely always nice to have a catch up with the younger girl to ensure she wasn’t getting up to mischief as he knew she was prone to doing. also, lucas wanted the chance to have another talk with her about abstinence – sure it probably wouldn’t work as it hadn’t the millions of times previously, but he knew if he didn’t try, she wouldn’t even think about it. lucas had never liked the idea of joey sleeping around, he’d always worried about her a massive amount. he’d even threatened to buy the younger girl a chastity belt many a time, but unfortunately she had not seemed too keen on the idea. lucas himself was not the sort to sleep around and so seeing joey doing it made him very sad, and made him want to teach her the benefits of abstaining from it until she’d formed a deeper romantic attachment, or gotten older, a lot older.
this was part of the reason why lucas had applied for this job at the school. he’d always worked in the ministry in the department of misuse of magical artefacts – mainly because he’d always found things like that interesting at school, but when they had started advertising for the position of apparition instructor for hogwarts school, lucas had almost leapt at the chance. he’d simply assumed it’d be easy to teach the sixth and seventh years how to apparate, after all it was one of the only magical talents that he’d actually found it pretty easy to learn – so how hard could it really be to teach them? but when he’d started, it had been almost impossible, no one had managed to even splinch themselves until the fourth lesson, and then it had been to put it lightly, a bloody mess, and a massive hassle. and after a disastrous first lesson in which lucas really struggled to get the concept of the three Ds across to the thick skulled students, he’d had to really research the theory behind it so he could try and make it more accessible to the sixteen and seventeen year olds. on the sixth lesson, two ravenclaws had finally grasped the ideas and had materialised inside their rings, pleasing lucas a great deal that he’d actually successfully managed to teach something. his lesson tomorrow was focused on giving confidence to those who had their exam coming up, and trying to ensure those who had not yet successfully apparated, managed it.
obviously as you could not apparate into the hogwart’s grounds, lucas had had to walk from hogsmeade, to the back entrance, which brought you out somewhere near the forest. wearing jeans, a checked shirt, grey coat and carrying a backpack of stuff he needed for the night, lucas had made it through the protective barrier over the hogwarts grounds, and passed through the gates. he was just crossing into the grounds near the boundaries of the forest when he saw a figure walking by the forest. wondering who it was, and ready to reprimand if it was a student – after all he was considered a professor (despite how weird he thought that was) of the school and so could deal out punishments if he so desired. as the woman in front of him spoke and lit her wand, lucas peered at her. she seemed oddly familiar, there was just something about her features that he recognised but couldn’t quite put her finger on. where on earth had he met her before? another wizarding person, and so she must have been someone he’d met after he’d been relocated at the disney household. it couldn’t be…could it? lucas grinned himself as she mentioned his name, it was definitely her. he laughed at the incredulity of the situation, “lilith barbary!” he exclaimed. “lily, what are you doing here? you don’t teach here do you?!” it was ridiculous that these two friends be reunited at this time – it had been many many years since they’d last seen each other, not since lucas had gone to beauxbatons. there they’d had to go their separate ways, since she was younger and english, whilst he was french. the two had been such good friends before that had happened, very close since they’d first met – it had been odd for lucas since he’d not really had any friends at the orphanage and to meet lily, magic like him, and a girl that he became very close to, had been a wonderful experience for the sheltered boy. they’d been each other’s first kisses as well – obviously not proper kisses, they’d been only like seven after all, but she’d been his best friend, and lucas had missed her once he’d gone to school. ”oh lily, it’s been years. how are you doing? i want to know all about your life since i last saw you!”

SCARS OF YOUR LOVE LEAVE ME breathless CAN'T HELP FEELING THAT WE COULD'VE HAD IT ALL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - lilith barbary wasn't that complicated of a person. well...alright. maybe she was, but only a little bit. heathcote was one of the most uncomplicated people ever to walk the earth, and miriam was....well, needless to say, that's where lily got all of her complicated-ness. merlin, that wasn't even a word, but that's how lily's brain worked. she made up things, and as long as they sounded legit then she was bound to believe that it worked. adriana generally raised an eyebrow at her when she blurted out some ridiculous word, like 'fantasical', for example, and saira would probably laugh at her in her usual polite way. out of all her friends, lily was probably classified as the crazy one, and rightfully so. merlin, just a few short weeks ago she had begun dating a student -- a student for goodness sake! -- and now they were having to go around in secret, looking around every corner. lily was the most paranoid of the two; anytime marcus was alone with her, her nerves were through the roof. that's how she knew that it was wrong to be with him, really. if it was real love, it wouldn't feel so wrong. no matter the age difference. that's how she had felt when she was around lucas disney when they were little. he was still a little bit older than her, and her parents thought it was adorable, but lily had sworn up and down that she was going to marry him. she would laugh about it now, but at the time she had been dead serious. cas had made fun of her for that, and rylan, well, he'd been far too little to understand such things. her family had been one of the only things she had clung to throughout the years, and was one of the primary reasons why she was as crazy as she was. heathcote tended to rub off on people...and he liked to tell lily that she was his favorite. she had been the one that her mother took to all the shows. after cas was born and heathcote's career slowed down, miriam started staying at home with the kids. as far as lily knew, rylan still wanted to be a chip off the old block. boy, did she feel sorry for his future wife. merlin knew the things that miriam had put up with.
that's why lily wanted someone quiet. someone down-to-earth, and most of all someone who could deal with even half of her crazy behavior. adriana and saira would easily laugh at her when she said something silly, but anyone outside of that could easily mistake her for a loon. the barbary family was filled with loons, really, but they weren't so much to the point of being admitted into st. mungo's. well, at least not now. perhaps in a few years, lily could reach that mark, but for the moment she assumed that her mental health was still in check. lily glanced towards the dark forest as she released a yawn, a hand raising up to run it's fingers through her blonde hair. by this point it was probably a mess, but lily really hadn't expected to run into anyone at this time of night. most of the students were in their dormitories by now, and any that weren't stood a fair chance of detention if they ran into a professor. well...if that professor was anyone but lily barbary. she wasn't much for detention, honestly. lily could easily remember all of the time she had spent in detention, so by this point she saw no need in exacting her revenge. besides, it wasn't as though she could harrass her old professors at this point. most of them were retired by now, and throwing all of her students a punishment they didn't deserve probably wouldn't earn her any kindness at the end of the day. as she held up her wand at the stranger, a smile stretched across her lips. merlin, now this was ironic. she had just been thinking of lucas disney a moment before, and suddenly there he stood. she slowly gazed over his appearance, allowing herself to admire the fact that he had grown up very, very nicely. lily brushed off the fact that she really couldn't blame herself for wanting to marry the bloke. the way he looked, he was probably already married. great, now she felt terrible for admiring another woman's husband. secretly seeing a student, and staring down another lady's husband. well, lily barbary was certainly on a roll tonight.
lily allowed her grin to widen, stepping forward to wrap him into a short-lived embrace. stepping back, she nodded, tilting her head back towards the castle. "i do, actually -- i'm the potions professor here. gotta put food on the table somehow, you know." she released a soft laugh, slipping her wand back into her pocket. it was crazy, seeing lucas disney again. it had been virtually forever since she had seen him last, though he wasn't entirely unrecognizable. he had certainly grown up, but she could still see the small boy she had wanted to marry all those years ago. "i'm doing great! i love my job, despite the impression that i like to leave." she paused for a moment to throw him a playful wink. "not much has happened, aside from getting my job here at hogwarts. i'm rylan and haylen's professor, which is always nice. ry's always trying to get off with bonus points of some illegal fashion." lily released a short laugh, shaking her head. "needless to say, my life has been pretty uneventful, but i wouldn't trade a minute of it. what about you? i have to assume that you're already married off by this point." lily smiled politely, her brain sending her the idea that subconsciously, she was probably asking for reasons aside from curiosity. but now really wasn't the time to think about that.

it was unreal to lucas that lily could be there in the same place as he was. after all, the last time he’d seen her they’d both been young, he’d been eleven and preparing to leave for beauxbatons. god, that was fourteen years go, lucas could not believe how the time had flown by. it seemed like only yesterday that they’d been playing together, and been best friends. it was crazy. these had been the moments of his childhood that lucas had always tried to savour, the moments after the horrors of his biological mother and father, when he’d been with kevin and ralph and they’d tried to make things normal for him. he’d never forget how perfect everything had become. but then, eleven years old lucas had received his letter saying he could go to beauxbatons, and the little boy had gone off, and well that was the last he’d heard of lily. he’d assumed she’d gone off to hogwarts two years after he’d left, since she was english, but they’d just never talked since then. he’d missed her of course, but lucas had made other friends, met other people and well, she’d just been a childhood memory. and then, when he’d finished school he’d got a sister – joey – and everything had changed again. clearly, both lily and lucas had grown up and changed a lot, but it was amazing how much lucas still recognised her, they couldn’t have been that different from the two little kids who’d played together all those years ago. ”oh wow! that’s incredible, did you start work here straight after finishing up from school?” lucas asked. he’d gone off and taken a gap year as soon as school was over, he’d had absolutely no idea what he wanted to do, and no ambition at that point, and so kevin and ralph had told him to go out and get life experience and that they’d help him work it all out when he returned. once he’d got back from that year, he’d ended up starting work in the ministry, in the department of misuse of magical artefacts, which he found surprisingly thrilling and interesting considering he was a muggleborn. “i’m really pleased for you, it sounds like you’ve found the perfect job, and you can keep an eye on your brother and sister which is always a bonus!” lucas grinned, his accent still fairly thickly french despite his many years of working in england now. he’d forgotten all about her younger siblings, the two of them had been little devils when they’d been younger. it made him grin to remember it all. he’d been an only child at this point and so the others had basically been like his family, all of them initiating him into the wizarding world, and opening his eyes to all these new things.
a small chuckle escaped his throat when she suggested that he was already married, his parents definitely wanted that to be the case, they kept maintaining he was too old not to be. ”no, no, haven’t quite found the perfect girl for me yet!” he smiled softly. ”my life had been similarly uneventful yeah, i graduated from school, went on a gap year, came back to find i had a sister.” lucas grinned. ”that was slightly odd yes, but yeah, kevin and ralph adopted a little seven year old girl, called joey, she’d been through some pretty rough times like me.” joey’s circumstances had been horrible, lucas remembered her telling him and it had caused a massive flair up of the temper he so carefully tried to keep calm. ”i started work at the ministry a while ago, and then i was told about this job up here at the school as apparition instructor, and well i decided to take it, mainly i wanted to keep an eye on joey. you must have taught her at some point?” lucas asked. ”i still can’t get over the fact that it’s you! it’s just been such a long time. this is seriously incredible!” lucas beamed. ”just, wow, lily.”
