joe was, as usual, in the library. but instead of reading a heavy book, this time around he was doing his charms homework. joe thought charms class was okay. he could live with or without it. sure the spells you learned were vital for everyday life, but charms didn't provide the same excitement and thrill that potions class had. potions class was joe's favorite class. he loved the feeling of brewing some type of potion. it was also interesting to see the side affects. as far as joe knew, there was no spell to allow someone dreamless sleep or give them twenty-four hours of luck. it was only the work of potions that could cause those types of side affects, and that was why joe liked to make them. sure there may be some sinister potions, but there were also the Unforgivable Curses, proving that there were sinister spells. and it wasn't like joe was going to actually brew those sinister potions. he was too much of a goody goody to do anything sinister to someone else. his consciousness would kick in, and then he'd feel nothing but guilt for the rest of his life. and just imagining his mother's reaction to joe doing something terrible to another made joe determined to be a nice guy to everybody.
joe wrote another sentence in his essay about the recent type of charm they had learned in last class when his mind began to wonder. he thought about the next quidditch practice for the durmstrang team. he would see rett there, since rett was on the team too. except joe was a chaser, though, while rett played the position of beater. joe remembered the thrill of being on his cleansweep seven, passing the quaffle between the other durmstrang chasers on the team. although joe did have a quidditch practice a couple of days ago, he had already began to miss hogwart's quidditch pitch, a quidditch pitch and stadium much bigger than durmstrang's one ever was. the quidditch pitch at hogwarts was one of the reasons joe preferred his new home of hogwarts over his former school of durmstrang. it was just so much... bigger. joe remembered with perfect clarity on how much smaller the quidditch pitch at durmstrang was. joe hadn't been on a quidditch team back in durmstrang, but he had practiced and sharpened his quidditch practice a couple of times a week. so he knew and recognized the differences between the two quidditch pitches.
joe's mind wandered back to the castle, wondering where his four best friends were. in their house common rooms, maybe? the only thing that joe didn't like at hogwarts was that his friends where in different houses than he was. it made them tougher to hang out with before, something that joe missed. since rett and joe were on the durmstrang quidditch pitch, joe saw rett more frequently than his two other best friends. but what about the two others? the four of them typically had to arrange meetings by owl or just randomly came upon each other around the castle. joe knew they had social lives to deal with, so he was trying to not be sour about not seeing them as much, but the truth was, joe had no social life. sure he was on the quidditch team and he was a prefect, but besides that all joe did was study, read, do homework in the library and go hang out with joey. joey was joe's first girlfriend ever, and he found it really nice to have someone to be with besides his friends and homework.
shaking off the thoughts of how he had almost no social life, joe returned to his homework. to brighten up his mood, joe put his charms homework and textbooks back into his brown school bag and took out his potions homework. his potions homework was an essay on the wolfsbane potion. typically, when joe did potions homework, he managed to distract himself from his other thoughts and feelings. and this time was no different from all the others. joe began writing his essay. he soon was so concentrated on the essay that joe didn't pay much attention to his surroundings. the library was a silent, peaceful, quiet place so it wasn't a problem to pour your heart and soul into a single essay for potions class. joe was so into writing his essay that he didn't really pay attention to the footsteps that were heading towards joe. in fact, it was only when joe decided to take a bite out of some honeydukes chocolate when he noticed the footsteps. but joe just shrugged and went back to his essay, chewing on his chocolate as he wrote.
