today wasn't the best day for devon mae fischer. her parents just OWL'd her saying that the divorce was getting finalized today. she couldn't help but to think who was going to take who, she would most likely end up with her dad while her brother would be with her mum. she didn't wanted it that way. the divorce was breaking their family apart, all they can do now is just wait. she wished that there was something she could do about it, but there was nothing she can do. she felt useless, unwanted, and horrible. she felt like she was going to explode. no one could simply live like this with all the emotions running up through her. but she did.
to take the stress away, she decided to take off the slytherin common room and head towards the lake for a late night swim. she rubbed her hands together and thought about the past events that has happened in the couple of days. but all she could think of his her family. sighing, she twirled her hair and looked at the seventh years who were about to go out to party in Hogsmeade. it looks like it anyways. she reached the lake in a matter of minutes and sat at the edge of the water. she swayed back and fourth, as if she was listening to music. she titled her head and watched the sky as the clouds fade away and the sky turns gray.
out of nowhere a tawny little owl flew down with a letter on it's mouth. she smiled at the little owl and read the letter, she noticed it was sawyer's handwriting. she took a quill and ripped a piece of parchment from her notebook and wrote down a quick reply before setting the owl off. he was about to walk here, to the hogwarts lake. it was kind of weird since she would normally be the one that has to obey his orders but this time, it was his turn to walk. she didn't ask him too, at least she didn't think so anyways.
it was rare that he'd go down and actually meet her, and bring her food. that sounded really weird to her in one way or another and it'll be a tad bit awkward since she won't know what to say. she pushed her thoughts aside and enjoyed the cool water which was now warm. devon wiggled her foot and waited for sawyer's arrival.

it upon himself to decide that today was going to be a lazy day. he had a considerably large stack of books he needed to read through by wednesday, and so far, they hadn't been touched. the same went for a handful of essays he was pushing off, and believe it or not, the list didn't end there. to be quite honest, he didn't really see the point in doing it. he had no doubt in his mind that he would pass the newt test with flying colors. all of this was just busy work in his opinion, and really didn't matter. that was why he didn't feel so bad spending the majority of his day laying in bed under a heap of toasty blankets. mind you, he braved trips down to the great hall for food, but that was really about it. SOONER OR LATER, laying stagnant in bed grew boring. even for a sleepy kid like sawyer, who was prone to falling asleep in the middle of class pretty much unannounced. he pulled up a mental list of people who at least entertained him, and when he thought about devon, he felt himself smiling more than he probably should have. he blindly grabbed around for a piece of parchment and scribbled out a note to her. he sent it away with his tiny, sickly looking little owl and before he knew it, he had plans. well... sort of. HE WASN'T EXACTLY sure why he was doing this, but at least it was something to do. he nearly crawled out of bed in order to get to the door, and sluggish as ever, he began to great ascent up from the dungeon to the main floor. he wasn't too keen on the adjustment his eyes made to this different light, but after a few minutes of blinking, his dark eyes were just fine. from here, he could smell whatever meal was sitting in the great hall, and he frowned slightly as his stomach rumbled. being half werewolf had it's perks, if you wanted to call them that. at least he knew he wasn't missing out on any super great food aligned on the long tables that never seemed to end. SAWYER STARTED HIS trek to the lake with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders, as he had promised in the letter. it wasn't like he planned on swimming, so why not bring it out there for a place to lay down on? psh. as if he hadn't been laying down enough today. he sighed slightly and took in a big breath of fresh air, actually happy to be outdoors for something other than a run to the shrieking shack or a horrible herbology class. relatively no one was out, and if they were, they were much closer to the actual school grounds than sawyer was intending on going. the lake wasn't so bad, he supposed. maybe he would dip his feet in or something. however, he didn't really trust dev not to pull him into the water, so he was hesitant. A FEW RIPPLES in the water caught his eye as he approached, and he assumed it to be devon. he took his time to walk down the steep bank of the lake, and settled himself on the water's edge, still wearing his blanket like a cloak. "i'm surprised no one's tried to down you yet," he said with a cheery smile. odd as it might seem, that was typical banter between the two, and maybe even a little bit... nice. devon snapped her head up at the voice of sawyer and gave him a small smile at the end of his remark. it amused her, she doesn't know why but it just did. "just thinking about things.." she replied, she wondered if she should tell sawyer that the divorce was finalized today. she doesn't think he cares though, about everything, hell she bets he doesn't even care about her. but she didn't mind, that's how it was supposed to work right? she was grateful though, the fact that he went to the black lake and all that made her happy. it sounds stupid and all, but she just really needed a friend to talk to.
her ADHD was kicking in, devon sighed knowing that she'd probably snap a rude comment at him because she's sort of bipolar. she still remembers the time when she blurted out rude comments to the teacher and got detention for five weeks, they say it's really that bad but according to her it wasn't. it wasn't the best insult ever, yet she had to be in detention five weeks in a row. her parents got mad at her, of course, she could never live up to their expectations, but then why bother? they're divorced anyway. the thought of them being divorce caused her to think a lot and get stressed. it was just so disappointing, they were happy when they got home from Switzerland but the next thing you know their fighting. it all happened in a flash.
"thanks for coming out here, lazybones." she said in a rather teasing tone. the blonde haired girl stood up and took her shirt off along with her shorts before slowly getting in. the black lake was cold, she enjoyed it like that. yes, she was strange, people tell her that all the time. she didn't really care what they say about her, why should she? devon held her body together and shivered. she loved swimming in cold water but the thing is, the water isn't cold, well, it is cold but it won't be for long. she swam back and fourth, at least three times before going back. the thoughts about the divorce, expectations, life; it all disappeared. just like that she felt calm and alright. her thoughts were gone and that was good for her, but it will probably be brought up again and she'd have to think about it. the divorce was going to tear the family apart, and she knew it.
she didn't really care about that for now. devon had a plan. that might sound weird and everything but she did. she was going to pull sawyer in to make him swim. she was sure that he knew that already and it'll make it harder to pull him in the water. a few students were passing by, seventh years to be specific, she recognized some of them because their parents knew each other. she watched them walk away slowly before getting out of the lake for a while.
